It's Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day!
February 7th, 2009Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day is the perfect opportunity to greet your neighbor with a big wave. But, to show your respect and appreciation on this very important day, you must wave with all of your fingers!
There's a couple ways to go with this, but I think the angle I'll take is the now extinct Family Fun Day parade at The Magic Kingdom. On a trip down to Walt Disney World in 2006, my wife (Wifey), daughter (Grapes), and I were pressed into service for this parade. The basic premise was that families of all stages were invited to participate, and, where else can you just be in a parade?!?

They group the families by age order... with just-starting-out families in front, escorted by Clarabelle Cow with a stroller. We were in the next group... the baby/toddlers. Grapes at the time was 9 months old, but was sitting up in her stroller, observing it all.
The parade organized itself at the Hub, then, once everyone formed up, the parents and older children were given long flags to wave, tambourines, noisemakers, etc. and we proceeded down Main Street, U.S.A towards the train station!
I have to say... it was a really fun thing to be a part of, especially for the kids. And, there were not a small amount of kids watching us that were telling their parents they wanted to be in the parade!
Since I had to push the stroller, I could not wave both hands, but my wife and daughter did!
Being on the "small town" Main Street, waving madly, we celebrate you, Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day!

Disney Video of the Day - Piano Medley
February 5th, 2009While I plan on not doing this every day maybe every few days or so I will post a link to a Disney related video. Today I found this amazing piano medley performed by some random YouTuber. I got the clear MP3 from the link and may feature this in an upcoming podcast if I need some Disney music behind some video. Take a gander, it is well worth your 10 minutes to view the entire thing.
Steelers Super Bowl Commercial
February 3rd, 2009For those of you who have not watched TV at all in the past few days or own a TiVo, like myself, you may have missed out on the Disney Super Bowl commercial featuring MVP Holmes and QB Roethlisberger.
This add goes great with the "What Will You Celebrate" campaign for this year. Also the Steelers did live up to their comment as the very next days they were at the Magic Kingdom for the Super Bowl celebration parade.
It's Fun at Work Day!
January 28th, 2009Fun at Work Day is a day to have fun at work for once. Ideally, work should be fun. But normally, work is not intended to have fun. It's intended to get work done. You're a very lucky person, if you if you can get work done and have fun doing it. The lucky souls in this situation, love their job.
Now, honestly, this is WAY too easy to tie to Disney. I think it could be argued that EVERY job a Cast Member could have at Walt Disney World, even throughout the Disney Company, has the ability to have fun at their job, but, this day reminds me of one specific portion of the company: Pixar Animation Studios.
If you have a chance, check out The Pixar Story, by Leslie Iwerks. (Yes, Ub's granddaughter.) It shows the way that Pixar is organize to encourage cross-pollination of ideas, to remove as much as possible the "strata" of management levels and the artists and technicians... anyone can comment on any idea, and if you come up with the NEXT BIG THING, guess what? YOU get to see it through. All in a facility that fosters fun and encourages a team spirit that goes beyond that of many other companies.
For this, I salute Pixar, which takes the spirit of Fun at Work Day to each and every day.
It's Opposite Day!
January 25th, 2009We have yet to discover who created this day, or the original date of creation. References to Opposite Day date back to around 2000. However, we found some casual reference to President Calvin Coolidge in the 1920's. Is it possible that a president said one thing and meant another?
So, how does that relate to Disney? Well, simply put, since today celebrates the whimsical and silly, Journey into Imagination at Epcot comes to mind.
Imaaaaaaaginaaaaation...Imaaaaaaaginaaaaation... Ah... sorry.
In particular, on the current attraction, right after Figment invites you to his house, everything is upside down... the opposite of how it should be.
Also, I'd be remiss without pointing out the upside-down waterfall in front of the pavilion... love it!
Some would argue that this attraction is the opposite of a good time, but I disagree. While it certainly PALES in comparison to the original Journey Into Imagination attraction, I find this to never have a wait, is almost 100% kid-friendly, and it just makes me feel happy! Plus... the song is an earworm, and Figment is a fantastic character.
So, in honor of Opposite Day, I salute you, Journey into Imagination!
