Top 10 Modes of Transportation at the World

September 9th, 2009

In the World there are great attractions, but also in addition to the attractions there are various modes of transportation available for guests to utilize. Below is what I think are the Top 10.

#10 Disney World Buses - The buses are not always the most magical experience to the park guests however they are very functional and useful. Simple use of the bus system and you can go anywhere on property.

#9 Disney Parking Trams - This had to make the list as you know you are almost at Disney (if you park at the park). I am always driving into the parks and there is nothing like the early morning ride to get you all excited about the upcoming day.

#8 Horse-drawn Trolley - Yes most times you are rushing into the Magic Kingdom and want to catch all the attractions you can, however I love doing the Horse-drawn Trolley down Main Street. It is a very relaxing way to tour the park. If you are lucky enough then the Dapper Dans will also be on the back singing a few tunes for you.

#7 Horse-drawn Wagon - There is nothing like going around the Fort Wilderness Resort on the Horse-drawn Wagon. Yes it is an additional cost, but well worth the price of admission. No reservations.

#6 Segway Tours - The Segway tours are a great way to see either EPCOT's World Showcase or Fort Wilderness. Not only do you get an amazing tour but you also get to ride a Segway in which many people have never experienced.

#5 Breathless II - What would this Top 10 list be if I left off Breathless II? This boat does it all from cruising the waterways at high rates of speed or an amazing firework cruise. You can not go wrong with the Breathless.

#4 Horse-drawn Carriage Ride - A few notches up from the other horse-drawn modes of transportation the carriage ride is a very romantic way to spend a small part of an evening with a love one. Hint to the men, it is a great way to make your wife or girlfriend feel like Cinderella. Reservations required.

#3 Walt Disney World Railroad - Walt was a huge fan of trains so of course this had to make the list. There are quicker ways to get around the Magic Kingdom, but for a great experience and a chance to rest you can not go wrong with the Walt Disney World Railroad either as transportation to your next destination or just to do a full lap around the park.

#2 WEDway People Mover a.k.a. Tomorrowland Transit Authority - To me the People Mover could be #1 in this list. Granted you don't get anywhere, but it is still ranks up there as one of the best ways to take a few minutes to relax. This is one attraction I never miss when in the Magic Kingdom.

#1 Monorail - Of course the Monorail would top this list. It is the most efficient way to move the crowds to and from two of the Disney parks. The monorail also has everyone's favorite safety spiel, "por favor montangase alijado de las puertas".

Honorable Mentions: Friendship Boats, Ticket and Transportation Center Ferry, Tom Sawyer Island Rafts, Liberty Belle Riverboat, Magic Kingdom Omni-bus

Disney Aquires Marvel Entertainment

August 31st, 2009

As I am sure many of you already know Disney has acquired Marvel Entertainment for $4 Billion in cash and stocks. The final steps will be an antitrust review and a vote by the Marvel Entertainment shareholders. With this new acquisition what can we expect from Marvel/Disney?

Big first thought is Universal's Islands of Adventure where there is Marvel Super Hero Island. It all depends on what the agreement between Universal and Marvel was at the time of signing. We are still doing research to find out the correct details on that agreement so it can be better discussed.

The next expectation is the upcoming movies involving Marvel characters. Disney stated during the conference call that the deal with Paramount Pictures to distribute “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America” and “The Avengers” stays in place.

My biggest question I have is not with the parks or movies, but with the first look deal Disney made with Stan Lee and POW! Entertainment just over 2 years ago. It will be very interesting to watch to see how Disney, Stan Lee and Marvel can come together to possibly push out brand new content and characters.

It's Kiss and Make Up Day!

August 25th, 2009

Kiss and Make Up Day is a great way to end a spat. Everyone has an argument, a fight, or a tiff once in a while. Family, friends, lovers, no one escapes without an occasional fight. Today is a day to end the fight, kiss, and make up. Oh, what fun this day can be!

Today is a day to end the fight, be it a short spat, or a long standing feud. C'mon, get over the issues, and resolve your differences. Then, kiss and make up. After all, making up can be oh, so sweet. For lovers, it is the best part of the fight. Some might suggest that the kissing and the making up part makes fighting worthwhile.

======================================

Wow. Not sure what to make of this day in relation to Walt Disney World. While there are certainly romantic locations, such as The California Grill and Narcoosee's, I think I shall choose a venerable stage show for today's post—Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage.

Other attractions feature famous kisses, such as Snow White's Scary Adventures in The Magic Kingdom, but this one takes the cake, as there literally was a fight between the two lovebirds before the final confrontation with the villainous Gaston. Then, after true love is expressed, humanity is restored, and the two share a passonate embrace, sealed with a kiss.

So, on this day of Kissing and Making Up, I salute you, Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage!

It's Left Handers Day!

August 13th, 2009

If you are a Leftie, Then Left Handers Day is just for you!

Left Handers, also commonly referred to as Southpaws, are the brunt of more than their share of jokes all year long. How do I know? Yup, you guessed it! It ain't easy being a leftie. But those of us who are, would have it no other way. Lefties are proud of it. The world is built for right handers. Examples are everywhere.

For example:

  • In school, have you ever seen a left handed desk? They don't exist.
  • Many left handed items cost more.
  • Novelty coffee mugs are made with the picture or text for a right handed pick-up.
  • Scissors for for right handers. Only a lefty would understand this.
  • The computer mouse you are using as you read this is designed for right handers.

Did you Know? Right handed people operate in the left side of the brain. Left handed people use the right side. Therefore, only left handed people are in their right mind. Left Hander's certainly earned the right to have a day dedicated to them. And, August 13th is that day. So take a minute to appreciate your left handed friends and loved ones. Don't forget to send them a Left Handed Day Ecard to show your respect. Remember today and every day: "Lefties have rights!" As lefthanders, we never do anything right....kewl!

Left Handed Facts and Trivia:

  • Sinistrophobia is the fear of left-handedness or things on the left side.
  • While many people are left handed, very few are 100% left handed. For example, many Left handers golf and bat right handed. On the other hand, there is a high percentage of righties who are 100% right-handed.
  • Lefties are also called "southpaws". The term was coined in baseball to describe a left handed pitcher.
  • Tuesdays are Lefties luck day.
  • Only about 10% of the population is left handed.
  • During the 1600's people, thought left handers were witches and warlocks.
  • International Left Hander's Day was first celebrated on August 13, 1976. It was started by Lefthander's International.
  • They say everyone was born right handed, and only the greatest overcome it. (he,he,he)
  • It is believed that all polar bears are left handed. Also see Polar Bear Day.
  • There is a rumor that octopuses have but one right hand. Scientists are diligently studying this issue.

========================================

Wow... this is such a sinister day! And honestly it's a hard one to tie into Walt Disney World... but I'll do it. One thing in general is that I try to take the left queue if given a choice... most folks head to the right. Another is the Walt Disney World Speedway, which of course is nothing but a big left turn. But I think what I focus on for this post is The Jungle Cruise... Specifically... Schweitzer Falls.

Bear with me... you swing around on the boat, and your skipper points them out on your left. When you see the backside of water it is there... on your left.

Left is the key element to the story!

So, we salute you, the Jungle Cruise, on Left Handers Day!
